Think about your daily life for a second. Can you think of
one thing in that the government does not tax or regulate? The air we breathe
is taxed and regulated as is the water we drink. Do not think so? I would
invite you to just drive by the huge Environmental Protection Agency offices
that we have in the Research
Triangle Park .
We have the highest gas taxes anywhere in the southeast. The FCC regulates all
we see and hear over the TV and radio to make sure we are not subjected to
things they think we need not be exposed to. Whenever we leave the house to run
to the store, we pay sales tax, we go to a movie, we have an entertainment tax,
if we just decide to go to a park and not spend money, sorry, but our parks are
controlled and overseen by department of parks and recreation. The point is,
our government has its fingers into every possible part of our daily lives.
Republicans have been termed by President Obama and the left
as the party of no. He is right, and we should be proud of that moniker and
embrace it. We need to stand our ground and say NO to Obama care. We should be
saying NO to cap and trade. We have to say NO to amnesty for illegal aliens
that are already putting a huge drain on our states. And most of all, it is
imperative we say NO to any other program that adds to our national debt or
increases taxes on those of us that still pay them (more households ended up
paying no taxes that those that did pay last year).
The question then becomes, what do we say yes to? We say yes
to tax cuts. This will free up money to Americans to invest with or for business’s
to be able to expand and hire new people. A great start would be to make
permanent the Bush tax cuts that are set to expire the end of this year. We can
greatly reduce the corporate tax and make companies want to keep business here
in our country.
We need to say yes to a strong military and secure borders.
This will give us the security that we as a nation and allow Americans more
opportunities for work and a chance to gain their own economic security without
having to rely on government to support them. Instead of granting amnesty to
all, we need to get them out of the country. President Eisenhower got rid of
millions of illegal’s while president in order to give American soldiers
returning from war a better chance of finding work. Why can’t we do that now?
According to the numbers we have lost 8 million jobs in America during
this last recession. Unemployment is in double digits in most states even today
in the middle of our “summer of recovery”. Now I know some will argue that
Americans will not do the jobs that the illegal’s will do. Simply not true. If
companies are forced to hire Americas
and pay them real wages, Americans will go back to work. Do not misunderstand,
other changes will need to happen, the so called nanny state mentality will
need to be addressed in conjunction with this but it can be done. If people
have any pride or ambition for more, they will go back to work, I honestly
believe that.
Finally, we need to say yes to reducing the debt. This can
be done without raising taxes contrary to popular thinking. By reducing the
taxes and giving incentives for companies to bring in more business and hire
more people, we create more tax payers. The more tax payers we the more money
we collect. We also go into every program and make whatever cuts that we can,
even if that means we do a blanket 5% or more cut to every department and every
program. Then we stop aide and subsidies to those countries that wish us harm.
We take that money and use it to pay down our national debt. Once that is done
we use that money to pay back all the IOU’s that our elected officials have
issued to social security. I know it seems drastic but we have to understand we
live in drastic times.
We do not have to feel like America is lost. Have we taken a
few hits? Yes, without a doubt we have. But the spirit that made us great is
still alive. I am of the belief that this is still the greatest place on earth
and that the American way of life we have always enjoyed is still worth
fighting for. All it takes is for like minded people to stand up and say enough
is enough. I am a member of the party of no and I am proud of it, how about
you?
On the part about illegal immigrants I disagree that they are a drain on our economy. They work for wages that Americans won't, and do jobs that Americans won't. I don't know any Americans that are jumping to be chicken catchers. But, I do agree that we need to reform the system. We should give Mexicans a way to come here legally and work, while we can still keep track of them. I also think that if they've been here for awhile, have been working, and have assimilated to some degree, then they should be offered citizenship.
ReplyDeleteI would also add to the things we should do: regulation reform. There are many senseless, needless, and sometime corrupt laws and regulations. A smart congress would go through all the regulatory codes and eliminate the unnecessary ones, and reform them to be smarter and business friendly. That would improve our economy about as much as anything else. That's also the biggest thing Reagan pushed for, which sparked the industrial boom of the 80s
