“Stand Up So We Can Be Heard!” I hear this many times a day
listening to 106.1 talk
radio. So my question is, are you standing up? Being a
Republican means nothing unless
there is action behind it. It is easy to sit back and say
you are a Republican if you never
have to do anything or support your beliefs. For too long,
many of us on the right have
stayed quiet. We believe what we believe and might have
talked issues with friends or
family. Do we really ever step out of our comfort zone for
fear that we might be labeled
as a racist or right wing fanatic or worse for what we
believe. But why is that? Why
should we not yell out at the top of lungs for the things we
feel strongest about? Think
about it, we have no problems telling others about our
favorite restaurants, a good movie
to go see, an interesting book others should check out, etc.
So why are we hesitant to
reach out to others about what we think of our government?
I am not saying that is always comfortable to stand up for
what you believe in and that
it will be natural for you to do so. In fact, it will
probably be awkward at first as it is not
something that we are accustomed to doing. But we have to
get our side of the story,
our beliefs out there. The democrats are experts at this.
According to folks like Rush
Limbaugh and Glen Beck, the liberals are a minority. However
they are also the ones out
there pushing the hardest to get their opinions heard and
acted on. The more discussion
we can generate the more likely we are to win others to our
way of thinking, or at least
get them thinking period. But we cannot hope to make an
impact if we are not willing to
take the first step and talk about the issues.
My challenge to you is this; take some time to really analyze
what you believe. Do some
research; seek out others for information, or whatever you
need to do to gain insight to
your stance. By doing this you will be able to stand your
ground when someone questions
your stance on an issue. You will be more confident to
challenge others as well as long
as you have the facts to back up what you believe in. It
requires some work on your part
as well as some time but in the end, isn’t it worth it? We
have a duty to our country and
ourselves to be as informed as we can so that we can make
the best decisions when our
elections come up. We have an obligation to our beliefs to
be able to support them and be
able to defend them. We need to stop being timid and be
willing to take the fight to the
liberals for a change and not be dictated to anymore. I
trust we will all do our part. If we
do, just think what November can bring.
