Proverbs 22:6 - God is still teaching us. Are you listening?

Proverbs 22:6 - Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. I have a 13 year old daughter that I love more than life itself. As her dad, it is my job to teach her what she needs to know in order to grow into the woman I know she will be. Her values, her morals, her outlook on things will be shaped, for good or bad, based largely on the influence we have on her while she is at home with us. If I do not hold up my end of the bargain, how can I expect her to know what to do or how to act? How can I expect her to go for greatness and to be the best she can be if I do not push her? How can I get her to do anything if I am not a good example, if I am not practicing what I teach? I can’t. God sent Jesus to train us. During His time on earth all He did was teach and preach to all that would listen. He spoke in ways we could understand, and was the example for all to follow after. We can’t sit back and poke holes at His teachings because He lived what He taught. We can’t sit back and question His character, he was the son of God, He was perfect. He was an easy example to follow. We also have the bible. Some folks refer to it as basic instructions before leaving earth. This is a great way of looking at it I think. We do not get to see Jesus daily as the people of His time did but we do have God’s word to teach us. All we need to know is in this book. All we need to do is read and we can learn what our father wants us to know. What an awesome resource to have. Think about it, wouldn’t you love to have a manual for your kids to follow? Wouldn’t you like one to follow yourself? I would. Just be able to go and find a book from my dad about how to handle asking for a raise, or how to cook the perfect French toast or something like that. It would be awesome! So why do we dismiss the bible so easily? After all, this is an instruction manual from our father right? God never leaves us. He is always trying to reach out to us and keep us on the path. He still is teaching us daily. Some lessons we might not want to learn but he his still teaching none the less. We are ordered by the bible to obey our parents, so why do we fight God so much. We are His children and He is our father. He took the time to get His word out to you. You have the training manual available to you daily. All you need to do is pick it up and start reading.
