John 1:5 - The light shines in the darkness

John 1:5 - “The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it” Have you ever blamed God for something in your life? When something bad happens that you can not explain do you sit back and shake a fist at Him and yell out “HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN!!!”? I will admit, sometimes it is hard not to. We see so much evil in the world that sometimes it is hard to see God in it at all. So we start to let doubt creep in. Understand this though, if you believe in God, you have to believe in a devil. The devil hates you. The devil wants to turn you from God and into darkness. The darkness is the absence of light, absence of the light of God. Turning from God will never make a situation better, only worse. Satan’s job is to tempt you, to lie to you, to get you to doubt your faith and relationship with the creator. He is great at his job too. He will use whatever doubt, grief, weakness, etc. that he can to accomplish this goal. We can fight him though. We have the ultimate weapon. God gave us His word, the Bible. Psalms 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path”. We always have a means to fight the darkness with at our disposal. We do not have to try to fight the fight all alone. God also gave us His Holy Spirit to help us and to guide us. We do not have to go into the darkness. There is nothing for us there but emptiness and sorrow. John 1:5 says “The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it”. Meaning that no matter what, the light of God is shining on us. We just choose not to see it. We choose not to accept it and let it comfort us in our times of need. God does not stop loving us when things are going bad, that’s when He loves on us the most! Next time things are starting to go bad, give it to God. Next time you feel that darkness creeping in, get into His word. Next time you feel like you are falling, reach out to other believers to catch you and encourage you. We do not have to go through this life alone. Darkness can not overcome the light. You have the light of God inside you. Let it shine through the darkness at all times.
