Stand firm and hold to the teachings

2 Thessalonians 2:15 - So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. Ok, so it’s Sunday. You got up, went to church, saw some friends, sang some songs, and if you are a Baptist like me, went out to eat (Baptist LOVE to eat). However, did you listen to the message that was being given? Too often, we go through the motion and do what is expected without ever taking the time to listen to what is being taught. Those teachings are what help us to be prepared for the stuff that comes our way that would try to pry us away from God. We are too busy with our own lives and our own things we have going on to stop and listen. I know I am guilty of this. My attention span is not that long most days and as a result, I drift easily. In our passage today, we get a look at a letter to others to encourage them not to drift. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 - So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. Here we see Paul writing to the church of the Thessalonians. He tells them to be strong and to stand firm in the teachings they have passed to them. These are the teachings from the Bible that was revealed to them by Jesus. Only by standing firm and holding onto God’s word can we ever make sure that we can stand against Satan and his evil ways. We all drift at times, it’s like we can’t help ourselves. We can help each other though as Paul was trying to do with his letter. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 says “And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone”. This means that we are to look out for one another. Warn those that are slipping in their faith or have lost their way. Embolden the timid that are afraid to follow His word and teachings as we are called to do. Lift up those that are weak and fall easily and strengthen them so that they may walk with the righteous. Moreover, be patient with those that are struggling in the word. We are our brothers (and sisters) keepers. We all make up the body of Christ as members of his church. Stand firm, listen to the teachings, and hold onto them for all you are worth. If you do, no one will be able to pull you from God’s side.
