1 John 1:8 - We are only deceiving ourselves

1 John 1:8 - If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. We are by no means perfect. There was only one to walk the earth that was perfect and He was sacrificed for our sins. We rationalize our actions to where we can convince ourselves that we do not really sin. Or we will say "that doesn't really count", but it says in our passage that all we are doing is deceiving ourselves. If it is a sin in His eyes, why should we think that it shouldn't be a sin in our eyes? We have all heard the pledge to the Bible at some point. Look at one of the last phrases in that pledge. "That I might hide its words in my heart so that I may not sin against God". If its spelled out in the bible as a sin, then its a sin. Period. You cant pretend it is not or claim that you didn't know. Thats why we were given His word in written form so that we could know. So that the truth can be in us. 1 Thessalonians 3:13 says "May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.". This is my hope for you as well. We know when we sin, even if we do not want to admit it. Ask Him to strengthen you, to give you the courage to live a Christ-like life, and to strive to live a life free of sin.
